Before You Buy a Vehicle for Ghana

Questions worth answering before you pay a seller.

Check the vehicle against the conditions that block conformity

Flood, fire, major structural damage and vehicles assembled from parts are conditions the programme treats seriously. Ask the seller for the history in writing and for clear photographs of the underside and the chassis plate.

PVOCGH cannot tell you whether a specific vehicle qualifies. That is decided at inspection.

Ask about age and the speedometer early

GSA notice GSA/DGS/PN/26/09 and the vehicle import FAQ prohibit vehicles over 15 years old within the applicable programme. Verify age from reliable manufacture records before purchase, and consult the current GSA guidance for how the restriction applies to your vehicle. The speedometer must display km/h.

Know who you will be registered as

Private and commercial importers use different GSA registration forms. Decide which applies to you before you arrange inspection.

Keep ownership records together

Title or ownership documents, the seller’s details and the purchase record are normally needed later in the journey. Ask for them at purchase.
